This book is a must have for students wishing to gain admission to a Psychology Graduate School. It is packed full of information you will need to decide where to apply. If you know what area you want to apply to but don't know what schools are out there, this is your resource. If you know what state or region you wish to live it, this book will help you see what schools are available to you as well. Tons of information, average GRE scores, number of students who apply and gain admission to the program, and much more. Those free online data bases are no alternative. Out of all the money you spend on apply to graduate school, this will be the most important $20. Totally worth it.
I purchased it with its partner book "Getting in: A step by step plan for gaining admission..." I followed the directions exactly. Lets just say, it worked. I received offers of admission to 3 doctoral programs. I recommend this book to everyone I know who wants to apply to graduate school.

Many University libraries or psychology departments have a copy of this extremely comprehensive reference work that is updated yearly by the APA. The strenght of this manual is that the data included is very current (2008-2009) and documents the number of applications, offers extended and actual number of students who elect to accept an offer that year. It is mainly concerned with the stats of each program and it does not provide any sense of the culture and organizational structure that exists within various graduate programs. After spending time using this guide, you will quickly realize that a personal copy is highly useful. The only negative issue with this work is that the font size is so small that it is difficult to read without high-lighting the specific information you are seeking. However, be prepared to discover that the acceptance rates at most psychology programs offering a PHD is 2-10%. The APA is be admired for being so open and transparent with data that reflects the immense difficulty in gaining entry into a graduate psychology program.
